Democratic Progressive Party says it has not yet received a resignation letter from Nsanje Lalanje Member of Parliament Gladys Ganda.
This comes a day after the party unceremoniously ‘fired’ her from the position of Director of Elections and redeployed her as an advisor to party president Peter Mutharika.
DPP Spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba said this was not a removal but rather a re-assignment.
He could neither deny nor confirm whether the decision had been made following Ganda’s remarks at Sorgin in her constituency where she praised President Dr Lazarus Chakwera for development projects taking place in her Nsanje Lalanje constituency and some parts of the country.
Ganda is yet to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, political commentators have faulted Mutharika for firing people from their positions and sometimes from the party without considering the tenets of democracy.
Humphrey Mvula , a political analyst, believes the action by DPP to remove an elected leader such as Ganda has the potential to divide the party which recently held an elective convention.
Prior to its elective convention, several party leaders were either demoted or fired from the DPP for showing interest to contest against Mutharika or speaking anything against the party, a development political commentators thought would go with the convention.
