DPP councillor,followers defect to MCP

Songwe Ward Councillor Misheck Mwaijengo and his supporters who were with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Karonga North have switched sides to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Mwaijengo, who was also the current chairperson for Karonga District, along with the others, confirmed this during a welcome event held at Iponga School Ground.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mwaijengo said the good leadership of Dr Lazarus Chakwera and the various projects implemented by government in the region are key reasons for their move to the MCP.

” I have joined MCP because of a number of developmental projects being implemented by the government in my area, like construction of One Stop Border Post, the construction of Mayoka Community Day Secondary school and houses of men in uniform at Songwe border,” he said.

Kezzie Msukwa, Chairperson for MCP in the North-North Region, welcomed the group to the MCP.

Msukwa said the defection of Councillor Mwaijengo and his supporters is a clear indication that the MCP is poised to win next year’s general elections.

He has since asked party members to work with the new members to fulfil the party’s open door policy.
