Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has urged people in the country to be vigilant in demanding products that are certified by the corporation.
MBS Director General Bernard Thole was speaking during a media interface in Blantyre.
Thole emphasized that everyone should join hands in ensuring that poor quality commodities that are harzadous to health are eliminated on the market.
“There is need for Malawians to embrace quality culture and refrain from consuming products that are dangerous to our health,” he said.
According to Thole, in addition to market surveillance, MBS has signed MOUs with the Small & Medium Enterprises Development Institute, Police as well as Trade officers to help in raising awareness on quality assurance and standardisation among others.
This comes just days after eight people died in Blantyre after consuming an uncertified beer, widely known as ‘Ambuye tengeni’.
