Continuation of classes at Masasa Primary School hangs in limbo

The aftermath of Cyclone Chido has left Masasa Primary School in Ntcheu in a dire state, with 250 learners unable to attend classes.

Deputy Headteacher, Samuel Chipojola,  explained that a classroom block, which accommodated Standard 3, 4, and 5 learners, had its roof blown off during the cyclone. With the rainy season now underway, he expressed concern about the likelihood of resuming lessons after the holiday break.

“The school is about to close for the holiday, but my main worry is January 6, when classes are supposed to resume. That period falls right in the heart of the rainy season,” Chipojola said.

He added that the damaged block is beyond repair, suggesting that the best solution would be to demolish the structure and construct a new one.
