To promote good governance and community awareness, Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) has appealed to journalists in community radio stations to cover parliamentary proceedings.
The organization’s Citizen Engagement Manager, Moffat Mphweya Phiri, was speaking after a media training on Access to Information Law (ATl) under the parliamentary support programme.
“As CSAT, we saw a gap that most of the community radios in the country do not pay attention to parliamentary reporting, as the proceedings are mainly covered by the mainstream media,” Phiri said.
Moreen Kawelama, one of the participants and the Head of News for Dzimwe Community Radio in Mangochi, described the training as an eye-opener, pointing out that they did not know the procedures of how to access the proceedings.
Journalists from different media houses based in Mangochi, Balaka and Machinga attended the training.
