Two nabbed over K145.2 million robbery

Lilongwe Police have arrested two men, Joseph Kamanga (32) and Symon Botoman (31), for allegedly robbing a businessman of K145.2 million ($64,000) in a taxi scam.

The victim was tricked into boarding their taxi, which pretended to be headed to Mchinji Boma, but was stopped just a kilometre away.

The suspects then stole a plastic bag containing dollars from his laptop bag while the businessman struggled to open the child-locked doors.

Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu said two other suspects are still at large. However, K5 million and a Honda Fit vehicle valued at K10 million, suspected to have been bought with stolen money, have been recovered.
