Blantyre Mayor vows to restore city’s glory

Blantyre City Mayor Joseph Makwinja has pledged to tackle long-standing issues hindering the city’s development, citing lack of street lights, recreational spaces, and poor hygiene as top priorities.

Makwinja said this at a Meet and Greet event in Blantyre, where he said his office will work with  stakeholders to drive progress.

Wikings Mijiga of Capestars suggested extending business hours to 24/7 to boost economic activity, but raised concerns about security.

In response, Police Commissioner Noel Kayira assured increased police presence to ensure a safer environment.

The event saw several traders, including Faizo of Pacific Limited, contribute to the Mayor’s Cheer Fund.
