Balaka Police and Portland Cement Company have agreed to strengthen security cooperation following cases of theft at the company’s Ng’onga site in Balaka District.
Officer-in-Charge for Balaka Police Station, Phillip Dinala, made the remarks on Thursday during his engagement with the company as part of his familiarisation tour in the district.
Dinala said the Police and the company need to work together to combat theft involving communities around the company and some Portland Cement employees.
He assured the company that Police will continue working with Portland Cement to strengthen security around the site through day and night patrols.
Portland Cement Security Manager Edward Nachipo said four theft cases at the company had resulted in convictions, describing the development as a positive result.
Meanwhile, Dinala also paid a courtesy call to Senior Chief Sawali as part of his familiarisation tour.
He said the visit was aimed at fostering close collaboration with the chief in combating crime and promoting peace and security in Balaka District.
Senior Chief Sawali pledged continued support to the Police and urged Dinala to strengthen security through rural patrols, joint patrols with community policing members and other strategies.
