President of Malawi, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, is among five Malawians who have been nominated for the Iconic Africa Honours 2026 awards, which will be presented on 13 February 2026 in Harare, Zimbabwe.
According to the organisers, President Mutharika will be honoured for outstanding leadership and political acumen by becoming the first politician in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region to win elections twice from the opposition.
A Facebook post from the Malawi Government shows that others who have made the list from Malawi are the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ben Phiri, Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) acting Director General, Maya Nkoloma, M-Hub founder Racheal Sibande as well as Irrigation Expert and founder of Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (FISD), Frank Mwenechanya.
Phiri has also been honoured to participate as a distinguished speaker through a key address aligned with four thematic areas: local government reform and decentralised development and rural development and community empowerment, among others.
Natasha Patience Mncube is the visionary founder behind the Icons of Africa Awards—built to spotlight the people moving the continent forward, not just the most visible names.
The event will be convened under the theme, “The Africa We Want, Sustainable Development, Everyone’s Responsiblity.”
