Airport Development Limited (ADL) says about 700 hectares of land adjacent to Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) will be used for the development of Airport City.
ADL Chief Executive Officer Victor Lungu made the remarks during the Aero City project inception meeting in Lilongwe.
According to Lungu, KIA has a total of 7,000 hectares of land, with only 1,500 hectares currently in use.
He said ADL plans to utilise some of the idle land for Airport City development and airport expansion.
Lungu further said ADL has identified the Portuguese firm, José Ferraz & Associados Group (JFA), to conduct a feasibility study and develop a master plan for the project.
JFA Group International Director Mohammed Samir has encouraged foreign investors to invest in the project to bring it up to global standards.
The airport city will feature recreational facilities, including hotels, an aviation university, hospitals, shopping malls, and other commercial facilities.
This is in line with the country’s ATM Strategy, which focuses on boosting the economy through Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining while aligning with the Malawi 2063 vision, which outlines the country’s long-term development goals.
