Ministry of Lands has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of an awareness meeting held with members of the Kasasire community in Nkhata Bay District, aimed at addressing land disputes surrounding the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) shooting range located in the area of Traditional Authority M’bwana.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry, Davie Chilonga, said people have been well-informed about the boundaries of the area by the laws.

He said the meeting was arranged to raise awareness on the boundary of the MDF shooting range in the district following an eviction of some community members who allegedly encroached the area.
“We will work with all relevant stakeholders, including the District Commissioner and traditional leaders, and see how they go about it,” Chilonga said.
MDF Commander Velentino Phiri said they are committed to protecting the communities living around the firing range from harm.

Traditional Authority M’bwana commended the government for its timely intervention on the matter.
Organised by the Ministry of Lands, the meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Homeland Security, Office of the President and Cabinet, Ministry of Local Government Unity and Culture, MDF, traditional leaders, and community members from Kasasile.
