CSONA pushes for funding in nutrition

The Civil Society Organisation Nutrition Alliance (CSONA) has urged Parliament and stakeholders in the health sector to collaborate in financing nutritional interventions in Malawi.

Chairperson of CSONA Board John Chipeta has voiced the concern after the reduction in the 2024/2025 national budget allocation for nutrition, which has decreased from 1.6 to 1.1 percent.

He highlighted this during a Health Stakeholders meeting in Lilongwe, convened to disseminate the findings of the budget analysis.

Matthews Ngwale, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, then criticized CSONA for making the revelations a bit late.

The analysis report has made several recommendations, including the localization of nutrition interventions, which are largely dependent on international organizations that provide approximately 95% of funding.
