World Bank’s mission has commended Zomba district council for smoothly implementing social support for Resilient (SSRP) Programmes.
Senior Social Protection Officer for the Bank, Chipo Msowoya, said this on Monday during the mission’s engagement with some of the beneficiaries of Social Cash Transfer, Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CSEPWP )and Village Savings loan groups.
Msowoya said, based on the interactions, it was evident that the objectives of the Programme were being achieved.
He said the mission whose main objective was to understand how the SSRP programme was being implemented and impacting on Malawians is confident of the sustainability of the programme and long lasting structures.
Under the SSRP programme, Malawi government with support from the multi donor Trust Fund is implementing social support activities that would in the end alleviate the sufferings of the ultra-poor while building their resilience.
Executive Director for National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC), Kondwani Santhe, whose team joined the mission, said the essences of the trip were to understand how the programme was being implemented, successes and challenges.
Santhe said all issues discussed during the interactions with the community and Council officials has been noted and would be looked into.
District Commissioner for Zomba, Reinghard Chavula, expressed gratitude for the Bank and the whole multi donor trust fund team for visiting the district to appreciate how it is implementing the SSRP programme.
Chavula said people from Zomba are committed to working hard in the all the programmes.
The DC said through the programme, a lot of lives have been transformed.
