Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has praised the Catholic Church for its collaboration with the government in enhancing the socio-economic well-being of Malawians, particularly through initiatives in education and health.
Dr Chilima made the remarks at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe at the consecration of Reverend Father Vincent Mwakhwawa as Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe whilst urging the bishop to serve faithfully.
Archbishop George Tambala of Lilongwe Archdiocese urged Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa to preach the word of God focusing on salvation, mending broken families and assisting disadvantaged youth facing numerous challenges.
In counsel to the new Auxiliary Bishop, Archbishop Gian Luca Perici, the Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia, emphasized the importance of humility.
Bishop Vincent Mwakhwawa, was ordained by Pope Francis to become the Auxiliary Bishop of Lilongwe Archdiocese in November 2023. He was born in 1975 and ordained as a priest in 2003.
