UN celebrates 60 years in Malawi, urges youths to lead in climate action

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo says Malawi appreciates the development support which it continues to receive from the United Nations (UN).

The minister made the remarks during the celebration of the UN’s 60 years in Malawi, held at Malingunde in Lilongwe.

Tembo then urged the youth to participate in preserving the environment and to take an interest in community and agricultural development initiatives to promote development in the country.

She added that with the majority of the population being the youth — who are energetic and innovative, they have the potential of mitigating climate change.

UN Resident Coordinator for Malawi, Rebecca Adda-Dontoh said environmental protection is central to development, particularly in the agricultural sector.

As part of the celebrations, the UN donated learning materials to 2300 students, painted school blocks and planted trees at Malingunde Resource School.
