The Malawi government has lifted the ban on maize importation from Tanzania.
In a statement signed by Secretary for Agriculture Dickxie Kampani, traders can now freely import maize from Tanzania but must get authorization and documentation including sanitary and phytosanitary authorization from Tanzanian and Malawian authorities.
The ministry says it will however continue to monitor the situation with periodic checks.
The maize importation ban was imposed in 2012 following the detection of the Maize Lethal Necrotic Disease- MLND in Tanzania.
