Sports competitions helping in youth development

A member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in Karonga District, Leonard Kiyombo, has urged people in the country to promote different sports disciplines to keep the youth engaged.

Kiyombo, who runs a business in the district, said this at Kasantha Primary School Ground in Traditional Authority Kilupula during the launch of the K5 million Lenzo Kiyombo Football and Netball Trophies.

“I am sponsoring this tournament to keep the youth busy so that they do not indulge in immoral behaviours. Many young people get involved in immoral behaviours when they are idle and end up entering early marriages,” Kiyombo said.

Meanwhile, the area’s Group Head Woman Katumbi has asked other stakeholders to promote women’s football in the country as it has the potential to promote gender inclusivity.
