MUBAS discovers 25 million tonnes of lime deposits

Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has discovered 25 million tonnes of potential limestone deposits at Chemkumbi in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka.

The discovery was through MUBAS Commercial Limited (MCL).

According to their study, the area can produce a million tonnes of limestone annually for a period of 25 years.

Mining Minister, Monica Chang’anamuno and Education Minister Madalisto Kambauwa Wirima are touring the area to have first-hand information on the mining.

Local authorities report that the country imports lime while it has millions of it untapped, underneath.
