Trade Policy Training Centre in Africa (TRAPCA) has pointed out that Malawi is making strides in adhering to the Africa continental Free Trade Agreement Digital Trade Protocol.
Some articles in the Protocol call for member states to have regulations/legislations that guard the digital space such as data protection laws, a move the Malawi government has so far made.
Speaking during a sensitization workshop for media, the Academia and business players, TRAPCA trade law expert Thokozani Ngwira pointed out that there are notable steps that government has taken to implement articles in the protocol.
On his part Director of ICT in the Ministry of Trade Patrick Machika said they will continue collaborating with key implementing partners to ensure malawi is fully adherent so that the nation benefits from Digital Trade under the AfCFTA.
The protocol seeks to promote smooth trade in the digital space among member states, while increasing economic activity among and between nations in Africa through the regional single market.
