‘Let us promote peace’

Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum has expressed dismay with calls by some opposition political parties to suspend voter registration and remove some top officials of the Malawi Electoral Commission from their positions.

Leaders of the Southern Region chapter of the Forum, led by its Chairperson Stanley Moyo, made the remarks in a statement read out to journalists in Blantyre on Saturday.

The forum also says as organisations advocating for free and credible elections, they do not support calls to have voter registration suspended.

They said all political parties including those in opposition were part of the idea to have a new system of running elections.

The group also called for restraint among party supporters to ensure there is peace and political coexistence as the country runs up to next year’s general election.
