HIV and AIDS statistics in Malawi shows that the pandemic is increasing at a rapid rate among the youth, the Ministry of Health has confirmed.
About 53,000 persons within the age bracket of 0 to 19 are contracting the virus annually in the country.
Minister of Gender, Jean Sendeza, noted that the rise is likely due to the cyclones and health burdens.
Sendeza was speaking at Mpemba in Blantyre during the launch of a 5-year project worth K100 billion to address HIV and AIDS among children and the youth called ‘Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo’ (ANAPA) which is being funded by Pepfer under USAID.
The project will run in nine districts that are considered to have a high burden of HIV cases.
