Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change, in conjunction with Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), will resume enforcement of thin plastics regulations on July 08,2024.
This follows Supreme Court of Appeal dismissal of an injunction which thin plastics manufacturers obtained in 2021 restraining the ministry and MEPA from implementing the ban.
Principal Secretary in the ministry, Yusuf Mkungula, says the development will enable government to protect the environment and advocate for safer disposal as thin plastics pose a health threat to both humans and animals.
MEPA and ministry officials are addressing the press in Lilongwe this morning.
