Government through the Ministry of Labour has expressed commitment to increasing technical education enrollment across the country.
Minister of Labour Peter Dimba made the remarks during an inspection of Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) examinations at Namitete Technical College in Lilongwe.
According to Dimba, only skilled youth can help transform the country into an inclusive and wealth nation in pursuit of the Malawi 2063 vision.
He added that to achieve this there is a need for curriculum review of the technical education to make it more attractive to the youths.
Dimba further said the government, through the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) project, is constructing infrastructure in various technical colleges to enhance technical and vocational education.
TEVETA Regional Manager for the Centre, Joseph Sambaya, highlighted that they are procuring training equipment and tools that will be distributed to 20 institutions across the country.
Sambaya added that TEVETA is also revising stipends for interns as part of improving student’s welfare during attachments.
Namitete Technical College has over 300 students and offers various programs, including Administrative Studies, Automobile Mechanics, Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical Installation and Plumbing.
