Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing challenges within the land sector.
Gumba made the remarks on Tuesday during a sensitisation meeting with District Commissioners and Chief Executive Officers in Salima which focused on the new land governance laws and the progress of devolution.
He highlighted the successful enactment of three key land governance bills, designed to enhance real estate participation for Malawians and tackle existing sector challenges.
Gumba also emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration and dedication to reform efforts, which he said are essential for advancing land administration in Malawi.
The Minister also provided updates on the fiscal devolution of land-related functions, revealing that part of the Ministry’s budget for 2024/25 has been approved for councils.
“This financial backing is vital for local authorities to effectively manage land services, aligning with the National Decentralization Policy,” Gumba stated.
