Government commends FAO support for land registration in Kasungu

Government says support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) will help accelerate land registration and improve land management systems in the country.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Aman Mussa, said  the assistance will help the ministry complete land registration processes in Traditional Authority Mnyanja in Kasungu District.

He was speaking when the FAO donated essential equipment for land registration in Lilongwe.

“This support will greatly improve the processes that we are undertaking in Kasungu. Most of the land in this Republic is customary land, and if people do not have documents for the customary land that they own, they cannot use the land economically,” said Mussa.

He added that digitising land registration will enable landowners to obtain ownership certificates and use their land productively to improve their livelihoods.

The FAO Representative to Malawi, Ali Said Yesuf, said  the Technical Cooperation Programme will provide technical support and equipment to facilitate land registration and promote sustainable land management.

“This Technical Cooperation Programme is meant to assist the Ministry of Lands to execute its mandate. We will provide technical support and equipment such as computers, laptops and printers to facilitate the work,” said Yesuf.

The two-year programme running from 2026 to 2027 will support communities in TA Mnyanja to register customary land, strengthening sustainable land management and improving agricultural productivity.
