Former Flames goalie no more

Former Malawi National Football Team Goalkeeper Charles Swini has died.

Swini passed away on Tuesday morning at Kamuzu Central Hospital following a short illness.

Meanwhile, his former club, Civil Service United has paid tribute to Swini, saying they will remember him for the personal passion he had for the game.

“We have learnt with shock and sadness the passing of our former player Charles Swini. We shall greatly miss his cheerful presence and motivation to the current crop of players,” said the club’s Secretary General Edgar Chipalanjira.

While at his peak, he also played for the defunct Escom United, Silver Strikers and Dwangwa United and UD Songo in Mozambique.

Late Swini was born on 28 February 1985.
