Former bank teller nabbed for robbing ex-girlfriend at work

Police in Lilongwe have arrested Maxwell Kafumbata, 31, for allegedly stealing over K3 million at First Capital Bank (FCB) office in Area 11.

According to Lingadzi Police Station spokesperson, Cassim Manda, Kafumbata, a former FCB teller, had given his girlfriend, a workmate at the same bank, K800,000 and an expensive phone during their relationship.

Upset by her lack of commitment, he stormed the bank after lunch on Wednesday, demanding that she returns the money and phone.

Kafumbata’s created a scene at the work premises where he allegedly took the money.

This prompted the police to launch a manhunt and they arrested him. They managed to recover K2.9 million.

Manda says investigations are ongoing continuing.

Kafumbata is from Kandaya Village, Traditional Authority Kalolo, Lilongwe.
