The Department of Water Resources has issued a warning indicating that major rivers in the northern region and lakeshore areas are anticipated to overflow posing a risk of flooding.

James Chitete, Director of Water Resources, attributes this forecast to the heavy rains falling in the region.

In a statement, Chitete advises the public against settling in flood-prone areas or attempting to cross flooded rivers and streams.

Furthermore, he urges communities residing along these rivers to utilise Community-Based Flood Early Warning Systems (CBFEWS) to mitigate the risk of loss of life associated with flooding.

Some of the rivers affected include North Rukuru, South Rukuru, Hara, Dwangwa and Bua.
