Blantyre District Health Office says five people have died in Manase Township, Blantyre of suspected alcohol poisoning while two others are hospitalised at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
In a statement signed by Dr Gift Kawalazira, Blantyre DHO says it is investigating the incident to establish the exact cause of the deaths.
It says the general public will be updated accordingly once the investigation are finalised.
