First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera has donated relief items worth K70 million to people in Sub Traditional Authority Katimbira’s area in Nkhotakota District who were affected by Cyclone Freddy.
The relief items, from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malawi, are part of the Embassy’s response to President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s call to help people affected by the disaster in the country.
Chief Advisor to the First Lady, Michael Mkandawire, said Madam Chakwera is committed to helping people who were affected by natural disasters by sourcing support from different partners.
Mkandawire said this on Thursday after handing over maize flour and beans to 1,800 households in the area.
Member of Parliament for the area, Ovestone Kondowe, expressed gratitude and asked well-wishers to support the affected with irrigation equipment for the restoration of their lives.
Over 12,000 people were affected by Cyclone Freddy in Nkhotakota.
