Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) plans to start a new company aimed at providing affordable internet services to its customers.
ESCOM CEO Kamkwamba Kumwenda was speaking at the company’s National Data Centre in Blantyre when they were making a donation of K12 million towards ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM)’s 2024 ICT Expo.
Kumwenda says Escom already has the largest optic fibre network in the country and that once customers connect electricity to their homes, they will also enjoy cheap internet services courtesy of the new company it will set up.
The ICT Expo will run from 9 to10 May this year at BICC in Lilongwe.
ICTAM president Clarence Gama says the expo will promote innovations that can see Malawi’s economy developing.
