Digitalisation key to Malawi’s economic growth – Namalomba

Minister of Information and Communications Technology Shadric Namalomba has affirmed that digitalisation can enhance Malawi’s economic growth if fully implemented across key sectors of the economy.

Namalomba made the remarks after the Japanese ambassador to Malawi, Naito Yasushi, paid a courtesy call on him in Lilongwe.

During the meeting, the two discussed strengthening collaboration to improve and enhance the country’s digitalisation drive.

Speaking after the meeting, Namalomba called on the Japanese government to continue supporting Malawi in advancing its digitalisation agenda, saying modern technology is crucial in improving service delivery and boosting economic development.

According to Namalomba, the Democratic Progressive Party-led government under the leadership of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is committed to ensuring the country embraces digital systems in various sectors.

He said the move will address some of the challenges Malawi is facing.

In his remarks, Yasushi said the Japanese government remains committed to supporting Malawi’s development efforts and will continue working with the government to promote digitalisation and economic growth.
