Dedza District Council calls for concerted efforts to combat child abuse

Edward Chisanga, the District Social Welfare Officer for Dedza has called for collaborative action among stakeholders involved in child rights to address violations effectively.

This call comes as Malawi commemorated the Day of the African Child on Friday at Dedza Stadium under the theme, “Education for All Children in Malawi, Time is Now.”

Chisanga observed that the district continues to register cases of child marriage, child labour, and sexual abuse, which require a multi-sectoral approach to address the malpractices.

Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza stated that efforts are being made with fellow chiefs to enhance by-laws and encourage people to report child rights violations.

Dedza District Council currently has 32 child protection workers, with 11 on the government payroll and 21 serving as volunteers.
