Dedza DC establishes bursary committees to enhance support for students

Dedza District Council has established bursary committees in constituencies to improve the effectiveness of its operations.

In response to concerns raised by councillors regarding the update on bursary constituency committees, Dedza District Council Director of Planning and Development, McPherson Mwakhwawa, said they will establish proper guidelines on the composition and roles of these committees.

“We have so far managed to establish in 7 constituencies, remaining with one constituency out of 8 total constituencies. We expect to build the capacity of these committees,” Mwakhwawa said.

Councillor for Mulunduni Ward, Dave Benson, said some deserving beneficiaries are failing to access the support due to delays in the bursary committees.

Member of Parliament for Dedza North Constituency, Savel Kafwafwa, said the money allocated for bursary from the Constituency Development Fund is so small that it cannot cater for all needy students.

At least 2000 learners are on the bursary scheme in Dedza.
