President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has pledged to continue promoting trade in Nkhata Bay District.
He said this during an address at Nkhata Bay boma where he noted that the town had already been given a layout design and included in planning documents as Malawi’s “second city.”
However, Dr Chakwera warned that old infrastructure—including a jetty built by a previous administration as a mere showpiece—continues to impede trade in the district.
Dr Chakwera stressed that people should vote for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to ensure the fulfilment of these visionary plans.
He further observed the unreliability of the Ilala ferry service and promised that, if re-elected, his government would procure a new vessel to boost commerce and strengthen connections between Nkhata Bay, Likoma Island, and other areas.
