Chakwera hails global efforts to boost electricity access in Africa

President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has hailed the Rockefeller Foundation and the Energy Alliance for their continued efforts in supporting African countries.

President Chakwera made the remarks during the Rockefeller Foundation’s roundtable discussion to extend electricity access to 300 million people in Africa by 2030.

The roundtable included presidents of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the African Development Bank Group and other organisations.

President Chakwera called on partners to continue supporting Malawi’s efforts to improve its energy sector.

African Development Bank AfDB President, Akinwumi Adesina, said the World Bank and the African Development Bank have launched a groundbreaking partnership with philanthropy organisations, which include the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the private sector and governments known as ‘Mission 300’ to bridge the electricity connections gap.
