Eighteen thousand cases of various cancers are reported every year in Malawi due to excessive alcohol consumption and heavy smoking.
Dr Leo Masamba, an Oncologist at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre, revealed this as Illovo Sugar Malawi donated essential medical supplies worth K22 million at the Cancer Unit of the referral facility.
Some of the supplies include a Chemistry analyser, Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Full Blood Count Machine.
