Benylin Paediatric Cough Syrup recalled in COMESA Region

The COMESA Competition Commission has issued a recall for Benylin Paediatric Cough Syrup Batch No. 329304 due to the discovery of high levels of Diethylene glycol in the medication.

This directive follows public notices from the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority and the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board, both issued on April 12th and 11th, 2024, respectively.

The recall was initially initiated by Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in a press release dated April 10th, 2024.

Mphatso Kawaye, Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority, has confirmed the development, urging health facilities, pharmacies, and the public to comply with the instruction to return the product to the supplier.
