Beit CURE Malawi appeals for K310 million to heal more children

Beit CURE Children’s Hospital Malawi says it needs K310 million to reach each and every children needing their medical assistance easily across the country.

Executive Director of the facility, Dr Rhoda Jura Kriek, said this in Blantyre when they received a K5 million donation from Portland Cement.

She said the grant covers the costs that are required for treatment of children.

Dr Kriek said they they want the healing journey to be made easier, and they have also organised a fundraising dinner on Saturday in Blantyre to meet their target.

“We would  like to treat as many children as possible, but we have a  a 3-months waiting list of children. We have a hospital capacity of helping 50 children but we do receive 70 to 80 children and sometimes over 200 children visit on a daily basis,” she said.

Portland Cement’s Chief Executive Director, Jianguo Liu, said they made this donation as part of their Social Corporate Responsibility.

Liu hailed Beit CURE Malawi for curing children who have various ailments that can potentially lead to disabilities.

“Every year we have these kind of activities. What they (Beit Cure) are doing is impressive,” he said.

The hospital, which was opened in 2002, performs over 2,500 life-changing reconstructive and orthopedic surgeries each year for children suffering from treatable disabilities.
