Advocates call for reforms in Karonga’s mining industry

Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) under the Karonga Diocese has called for the reformation of Karonga District’s mining industry, citing workers’ low wages and poor working conditions.

District Coordinator for CCJP, Obert Mkandawire, stressed this on Tuesday at a mining Indaba in Karonga District.

Mkandawire said that addressing these issues is not only a moral obligation but also a key factor in ensuring the industry’s long-term viability.

“Workers in the mining sector have expressed growing frustrations regarding their wages and safety conditions which has sparked calls for systemic changes within the industry,” Mkandawire said.
