A three-year-old child has died, five individuals remain missing and 12 others have been rescued after a boat they were sailing in capsized while crossing the Shire River from Chikuse Village, Traditional Authority Makhuwira, in Chikwawa.
Chikwawa Disaster Risk Management Officer, Charity Machika, says a team is currently conducting efforts to locate the missing individuals.
According to Group Village Headman Tizola 2, Chikuse Village is an island, and people normally use boats to access services like maize milling away from the island.
