Concern over illegal mining in Nkhotakota Game Reserve

African Parks has bemoaned illegal gold mining activities in Nkhotakota Game Reserve and has since asked the police and courts to intervene.

The reserve is a protected wildlife area.

This came out when African Parks officials briefed Kasungu District Council stakeholders on developments that have taken place in the reserve for the past six months.

At least 48 people have so far been arrested and convicted of illegal mining activities, which endanger a number of wildlife species, including Mpasa fish in Bua River.
