PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE WORRIES WITH SMUGGLING

Parliamentary Committees and Security have described smuggling as a problem affecting the Malawi Revenue Authority to collect much-needed resources as a result of the challenge posed a challenge to the National budget.

Speaking in an interview after visiting shattered routes along the Mozambique and Malawi border in Ntcheu and Dedza, Chairperson for Parliamentary Committee, Ralph Jooma,  said Malawi is losing more revenue due to smuggling taking place in Border districts.

He said the committee supports initiatives of the Malawi Revenue Authority including that of introducing drones to counter smuggling.

Commenting on the Development, Malawi Revenue Authority, Commissioner General, John Biziwick, admitted that smuggling remains a big challenge which has forced them to think of using drones to deal with the malpractice.
