The Second Deputy Director of International Affairs in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Chalo Mvula, has called on the youth in Malawi to extend their political engagement beyond social media by registering to vote.
Mvula’s remarks come as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) launches the second phase of the voter registration exercise in several districts across the country.
“The youth in Malawi, who are highly active on social media platforms for political discussions, often miss the opportunity for their voices to make a real impact because many do not register to vote,” Mvula said.
“I strongly advocate for youth participation in politics. While many are unafraid to express their opinions online, it is the actual vote that carries the most weight,” he added.
The second phase of voter registration, which begins today, covers ten districts spanning all three regions of the country. In the Northern Region, the registration targets Nkhata Bay, Rumphi and Likoma. In the Central Region, the focus is on Kasungu, Dowa, Mchinji and Ntcheu, while the Southern Region includes Zomba, Blantyre and Thyolo.
