Construction of the Chintheche operating theatre at Chintheche Health Centre has reached 25 percent completion, marking progress in efforts to upgrade healthcare facilities in Nkhata Bay District.
The District’s Commissioner, Rodgers Newa, said the progress made gives hope to residents that they will soon be accessing improved health care services.
According to Newa, the standard operating theatre, once completed, will enhance surgical capabilities and patient care, reducing referrals to Nkhata-Bay District Hospital and surrounding health facilities.
CLADS Construction, the contractors, said they are determined to complete the project by December 3rd, 2024 as stipulated in the contract.
Site Engineer, Mwiza Mkandawire, said they have since introduced double working shifts and increased workforce force as a mitigation measure to the time lost doing other unexpected works on the site.
Funded by the Malawi Government through the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC), the project will cost the council K365 894 948.87.
