Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) has tipped water utility bodies under Water Utility Regional Partnership (WURP) to focus on putting to action the outcomes of their deliberations if they are to achieve their goals instead of just documenting policies.
Speaking at the opening of a three-day workshop in Lilongwe, JICA chief representative in Malawi Kazuhiro Tambara said WURP members should work on putting to practice their shared knowledge.
Deputy Director of Administration in the Ministry of Water And Sanitation Masauko Manyunya hailed the organizers for hosting their fifth meeting in Malawi. He then said that government will proceed to support such initiatives such as JICA’s WURF project is expected to phase out December 2024.
Lilongwe Water Board Chief Executive Officer Silli Mbewe highlighted several achievements registered by Lilongwe water board since the inception of WURF. Among the success stories Mbewe highlighted that in 2022- 2023 East and Southern Africa recognized Lilongwe water body as second best performing water body in the region and in the same period the office of president and cabinet in the country assessed them as the number one performing body.
