Minister of Trade, Sosten Gwengwe, has tipped farmers and cooperatives that are into value addition to utilize available tax incentives to enjoy tax free importation of required machinery.
Gwengwe said the incentives, especially for agriculture – a sector earmarked to boost economic growth through manufacturing and value addition, were introduced deliberately.
Gwengwe made the remarks in Lilongwe when Agriculture Commercialisation (AGCOM) engaged with aggregaters, off takers, anchor farmers and various cooperatives to inform them on how they can benefit from the SMEs window 3 of AGCOM 2 programme.
” Funds are available, soon Agcom will open a window for you to present your concepts to get the grants…please let’s all join hands to produce and value add instead of exporting raw materials,” said Sosten Gwengwe.
National Programme Manager for Agcom, Ted Nakhumwa, pointed out that the window will benefit only those proven to be buying produce from farmers and paying taxes to govt.
