The Northern Region Football Association has announced that the Simso-Innobuild Premier League for the region will start on 4 May 2024.
This was disclosed during the Association’s 2024 pre-season meeting at Mzuzu Stadium.
NFRA Vice General Secretary, Bellings Kuyombwe, said they have also agreed to raise the registration fee for teams that will be participating in their two tournaments.
“The teams that will participate in Simama will be required to pay K750,000 up from K500,000 while the teams that will play in Division One will be required to pay K400,000,” said Kuyombwe.
Delegates at the meeting have also agreed to introduce a relegation system where teams that have finished bottom of the Premier Division at the cluster level will be relegated to the lower league and their places will be occupied by teams that have finished top of their cluster in Division One, which they believe will enhance competition in the league.
In addition, NRFA has also increased the percentage of money generated from gate collections which teams will be taking home from 25 percent to 30 percent.
Simama and Innobuild are the sponsors for the NRFA league to the tune of K15 million.
