Police net cattle rustler

Police in Mzimba on Saturday apprehended a 44-year-old man Madalitso Phiri for allegedly breaking into a kraal of Kennedy Jere and going away with 14 cattle on Friday night.

According to MacFarlen Mseteka,  Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station, the arrest followed a tip-off received by police detectives at Embangweni Police Unit, who were informed that someone was suspiciously seen with a huge herd of cattle around the area.

“Upon intensive questioning, the suspect admitted to have stolen the cattle in Mzimba at Kafoteka area,” said Mseteka.

“The stolen cattle have been seized pending identification by the owner,” added Mseteka.

The suspect has been charged with theft of cattle which is contrary to section 281 of the penal code and he will be sent to Mzimba Police Station to answer his alleged offence.
