Seven found guilty of 2014 murder

The High Court in Lilongwe has found seven men guilty of murdering Fendison Ndau, a truck driver and his assistant, Chikaiko Yakobe Mbewe.

They were ambushed and killed in 2014 when they were ferrying bales of flue-cured tobacco from Mchinji to Blantyre.

Evidence tendered during the trial showed that the bodies of Ndau and Mbewe were found abandoned in the truck, with their hands tied up, cloths stuffed in their mouths and had cuts in the head.

The bales of tobacco were also stolen.

During the pronunciation of the conviction, Justice Fiona Mwale asked the Malawi Police Service to intensify the search for one of the men who took part in the murder but is still on the run.

Justice Fiona Mwale is expected to sentence Harry Saka and the other murder convicts in the coming days.
